چکیده

Content-based image retrieval (CBIR) uses image properties such as colour, texture and shape. Although colour has been used successfully, texture can be even more significant, both for human perception and for CBIR. We present the results from a human study with 30 volunteers that ranks the “most like” images for each of the Brodatz textures. In all cases, only a limited number of the other textures were considered to be in any way similar. This perceptually-derived ranking is then used as a basis for relevance judgements, and retrieval performance measures calculated for the ranking given by each of ten computational texture-based methods. Precision, recall and Faloutsos’ AVRR measure are calculated, and the averages plotted for each method. These plots provide some guidance on the optimum number of retrievals. However, it is also necessary to consider the relative ordering of the retrievals, and the nature of the nonrelevant images retrieved in each case, when considering system usability.

Fuzzy modelling of visual texture: coarseness, contrast and directionality properties

The analysis of the perceptual properties of texture plays a fundamental role in tasks like semantic description of images or content-based image retrieval using linguistic queries. In this paper, we propose to model these properties by means of fuzzy sets defined on the domain of some representative measures. In our approach, the membership functions associated to these fuzzy sets are obtained...

Glyph Representation of Texture Properties

A novel approach to visually represent perceptual features of textures is proposed and analysed. This approach combines statistical properties of the texture together with qualitative measures coming from human perception. Quantitative measures, coming from co-occurrence analysis, have been in turn visually represented using an effective iconic representation, producing an immediate and easy to...

Defining A Fuzzy Partition for Coarseness Modelling in Texture Images

In this paper, the texture feature ”coarseness” is modelled by means of a fuzzy partition on the domain of coarseness measures. The number of linguistic labels to be used, and the parameters of the membership functions associated to each fuzzy set are calculated relating representative coarseness measures (our reference set) with the human perception of this texture property. A wide variety of ...

Image Mining using Content Based Image Retrieval System

The image depends on the Human perception and is also based on the Machine Vision System. The Image Retrieval is based on the color Histogram, texture. The perception of the Human System of Image is based on the Human Neurons which hold the 10 of Information; the Human brain continuously learns with the sensory organs like eye which transmits the Image to the brain which interprets the Image. A multi-scale and multi-orientation image retrieval method based on rotation-invariant texture features

Texture retrieval is a vital branch of content-based image retrieval. Rotation-invariant texture retrieval plays a key role in texture retrieval. This paper addresses three major issues in rotation-invariant texture retrieval: how to select the texture measurement methods, how to alleviate the influence of rotation for texture retrieval and how to apply the proper multi-scale analysis theory fo...
